JANUARY
20 2002
IN
STUDIO WITH SNUFF AND POLLIWOGS
Anneli
describes Bel Canto anno 2002 as more happy, humoristic
and more energetic than before. When I visited Anneli,
Nils and Richard Low in Disclab Studio in Oslo they where
mixing the eight song for the album.

The
album is expected in stores March 4, and the first single
"Already Flying" will be sendt to Norwegian radio
this week. A two-track commercial CD-single will be released
in mid-February, and will contain an exclusive track that
will not be featured on the album.
I
had the chance to listen to some of the tracks that were
mixed and ready for the album. This is my impression after
listening to the songs once.
Already
Flying
Mixed by Michael Ilbert. Playful and catchy song. Like a
hybrid between Anneli's "Sexy Love" and Bel Canto's
"Images". Maybe one of Bel canto's most poppy
tunes ever?
Night
Lady
Mixed by Richard Low. This sounds like the old days. It
starts out dark and mysterious, with the atmosphere from
the days when Geir Jenssen was a part of the band. But suddenly
it moves in another direction, and becomes dubby like Massive
Attack. It sounds like Anneli sings inside a can, the vocal
is quite similar to what Anneli does on Röyksopp's
"Sparks". It also has a synth part at the end
that sounds like "Buthania" from Shimmering, Warm
& Bright (1992).
Foolish
Ship
Co-Written by Torbjørn Brundland. This is a song
Bel Canto has played live for a while. It has become a nice
and smooth pop song. The intro and outro has some cool details
that makes the song more interesting. The studio version
is more catchy than the live version.
Polliwog
I didn't hear the complete song, but it wasn't as poppy
as "Already Flying" or "Foolish Ship",
and not as dark as "Night Lady". Nils' guitar
is more present than ever, on all tracks (that I heard),
and enhances Bel Canto's beautiful and recognisable sound.
(Polliwog in Norwegian = Rumpetroll).
Bel
Canto will do 15-20 concerts in Norway when the album is
released, starting in Bergen March 15.
