The
review: Suprisingly fresh come-back for veterans
of pop.

DOROTHY'S FIRST REVIEW:
Aftenposten describes Bel Canto's latest album as a
surprisingly fresh comeback and a small Victory!

Anneli
Drecker and Nils Johansen released their first album together
16 years ago, but Bel Canto still sound exactly like... Bel
Canto. Perfection or stagnation? (
) This time it's definitely
the first. The duo has not revolutionize their expression
in any way, but they have catched the melodies who made "Shimmering,
Warm And Bright" a gem in 1992. Highlights: "Feels
Like I'm Already Flying", "Night Lady", "Corals,
Jade And Pearls" and "Disappear Club 5".

The
Interview: Dreamrecord
from hometown
Bel
Canto's dream was to record an album in their hometown Tromsø.
The result become "Dorothy's Victory".
-
Our music have become lighter, not so melancholic. We have
worked with new people, for instance Torbjörn Brundtland
from Röyksopp. "Dorothy's Victory" was mainly
recorded in our own studio in Tromsø.
- It's easier to be creative in Tromsø. It's something
about that place. Here in the south it's to many elements
of distraction, Nils says.
Both have been busy with other projects beside Bel Canto.
Nils wrote the soundtrack for the short clip "Skårungen",
and Anneli released her solo-album "Tundra", worked
with Ketil Bjørnstad's "Grace", sung with
a-ha and played theathre. How have all this affected the
work with Bel Canto?
- I've become more secure as an artist. I know where I stand
musically, at the same time it's important to meet new challenges
and acquire new knowledge. It was lovely to start working
with Bel Canto again, Anneli says.
We have become more mature as composers, we don't force
the music out. We don't need to prove anything anymore.
Is there something you havn't tried vocally yet?
- Music for movies, to holler and wail intensely. It has
to be something ethnic, rather large and epic, Anneli says.
