DECENNIUM
MAGNETIC
Last
Friday (March 22) Anneli Drecker was singing with Jon Balke
and his Decennium Magnetic at Vossajazz. But the festival
program turned out to be a bit misleading when announcing
"Anneli Drecker in front".

Even
if it never was confirmed, Vossajazz in January announced
that Anneli would sing with Jon Balke. But the fact that Balkes
concert would be held at the same time as Bel Canto was going
to release their own album, made it practically impossible
to combine Vossajazz and promoting Bel Canto.
To
prevent a scandal Vossajazz booked Bel Canto (which wasn't
in the originally program), and Anneli would therefore have
the chance to join Balke after all. The something unexpected
happened: "Dorothy's Victory" got postponed two
weeks and three Bel Canto concerts had to be cancelled including
the one at Voss.

Bel
Canto's management regretted this in annelidrecker.com's
guestbook, and comforted the fans that had planned to go
to Voss to see Bel Canto that "Anneli will be performing
there with Jon Balke, and she will now have the chance to
do more songs on this concert than originally planned".
So
when I went there I actually didn't have a clue what to
expect. The concert started at 9:30 pm, Balke (piano) and
Henrysson (cello) startet with some soft jazz, played for
30 minutes before the rest of the band got on stage and
played more powerful compositions. The band did also play
at Vossajazz 10 years ago, so the mix of old pieces and
new ones from their forthcoming album was an energetic,
epic and very beautiful experience.

But
where was Anneli? First after 90 minutes it was time for
her. At 11:00 pm she joined the band and sang three new
songs - Before the band finished the set with a song from
the old days, where Anneli also was humming along. But the
concert didn't seem like a collaboration between Jon Balke
and Anneli Drecker. Balke & co did their thing, and
then Anneli did her.
The
new songs was absolutely fantastic! Anneli used her whole
voice register, from pure and beautifully pop vocal to intense,
almost scary, wailing. But only 15 minutes with Anneli,
who was supposed to "be in front" of the
project is to short...
The
songs would fit perfectly on the next solo album (?!) together
with "Bittersweet Paradise" , "The World
Outside" and "Loveless", songs Anneli have
played live on her solo tour, but not been released.
No
wait a minute, I've changed my mind. We don't want to wait
that long: I demand - Release the tracks as a "Live
at Voss" EP! Now! Thank
you!
Decennium
Magnetic at Voss was: Jon Balke (piano), Per Jørgensen
( trumpet), Arve Henriksen (trumpet), Morten Halle
(sax + flute), Svante Henrysson (cello, bass), Anders
Jormin (bass) and Anneli Drecker (vocal).
