"Exodus, belonging, longing" is the theme for the
festival, and refer to the fact that most of the artists invited
have their roots in the northern parts of Norway. Artists
in the start of their career are heading out in the big world,
while others have already been there and is now coming back
home for new exiting meetings with their origin.
The Festival of North Norway takes place each June around
Midsummer, and was held for the first time back in 1965.
The event attracts several thousand visitors to the festival
town of Harstad, situated 300 kilometres north of the Arctic
Circle.
The festival programme usually comprises 100-130 different
events, including concerts, theatre, and dance performances,
art exhibitions, literary and film events, and a variety
of seminars.
Anneli Drecker is the festivals "focus composer".
And the program promises "she will be presented in
a wider perspective than the audience normally sees her".
Last year Nils Petter Molvær was the festival composer,
and before him Mari Boine and Kari Bremnes have been some
of the central artists on the festival.
