YOU ROCK MY WORLD TONIGHT - VIDEO SHOOT

Last week students from the TV/Film School of Lillehammer came to Oslo to visualizize "Disappear Club 5" and "You Rock My World Tonight" from Bel Canto's latest album Dorothy's Victory. The two videos was shot at the same time, with two different crews at different locations in Oslo. We met Anneli and the crew underground at Grønland subwaystation.

Anneli plays a very small part in the video, director Kim Strømstad explains; - The story is about a boy and a girl, played by Mads Buer and Suzanne Paalgard, who meet at a party, and somehow don't get the chance to exchange phonenumbers. Afterwards they still think about each other and now and then the girl sees glimpses of the boy in different setting but never gets hold of him, until one day... Anneli is appearing at the right places at the right time, smiling cleverly to the camera. So we assume she is the one who brings them together, like a good fairy, or like Amelie in that French movie.

- It was my idea that I should have a small part in the video, not being the one singing straight into the camera, Anneli says. I don't know why but somehow the lyrics are too direct for me and it is better to have someone who has a more objective feeling of the song, playing that role and we found an actress to play the part. I also like videos where the band is more in the background and where complete strangers replaces the band. This song and the lyrics are for all of us, if you see. But although my role is small, it is important, symbolically. I am the magic woman smiling in the background which suits me perfectly, he, he.

Kim was very happy to be asked to direct a video for Bel Canto beeing a fan of the band for years - I have all their records, and I'm definetly a fan. It's a low budget production, so when Anneli showed us some photos from Hollyowood when they shot the video for "Rumour" in 1996, I got a little nervous, not easy to compete with the budget they had over there, but I hope our video will be good as well.

And Anneli enjoyed working with the new talents. - It was great fun recording the video, and although the video team are students from Lillehammer Film School, it was fantastic to see how professional and enthusiastic they were! Of course there were plenty of re-takes and a lot of waiting but I am used to this from having been acting in films before. And I wasn't the one who had to wait the most, luckily!
