The
trio describes the project like this on
their homepage:
"Vajas
(Echo) is the synergy of three arctic
voices: The Saami yoiks of Ande Somby,
the violin- and singing voice of Kristin
Mellem, and the synthesizer sound voyages
of Nils Johansen.
All three musicians live in Tromsoe, northern
Norway. In addition to be a well known
academic in Law working with native rights,
Somby also is a famous Saami traditional
yoiker. Mellem and Johansen work as musicians
and composers: Kristin mainly with folk
music/yoik/theatre, Nils as the music
mastermind of the internationally well
known group Bel Canto. All three musicans
have frequently been working internationally.
Vajas' fingerprint is the meeting of the
cold arctic breeze and human warmth, the
traditional Saami yoik combined with spheric
sound travels."
Tonight, October 9, Vajas is going to
have their first full scale concert at
Driv in Tromsø at 9 pm. It is a
part of the annual Indigenous festival
Nana in Tromsø.
October 11 Vajas is going to take part
in a TV program at NRK2 in Norway. The
program is going to feature Tromsø
application to get the winter Olympic
games in 2014.
